It All Starts In The Secret Place

COVID is the best thing that ever happened to me!

Almost from Day 1 of the “lockdown”, I began spending a lot of time with my next-door neighbor, Joanie. We had lived next to each other for years, but never really spent much time together. So while we were “at home”, we would sit outside in the carport, or the front yard, in our lawn chairs, sipping coffee and talking. We would talk for hours about skincare, foundation, serums, eye creams, and lipsticks. But most importantly, Jesus. She and I had both worked in the beauty industry, for a million years. So that was a natural. Joanie is also a Mighty Woman of God, so the conversation naturally went there as well. I soaked up everything she shared with me—about her life, her walk with the Lord, her husband’s brain cancer, how the Lord took care of them, her relationship with Holy Spirit, her awesome Sunday School class, and everything else you can think of.

It’s not as if I had no idea who Jesus was or is. I have known Jesus my whole life. And I was saved, baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit on September 2, 2001. I had a relationship with Jesus. Only my relationship was somewhat on again, off again. But during that COVID lockdown time, I really went all in!

I had been, before that, spending time each evening in my closet, learning to meditate. I was using various apps, tutorials, reading about meditation, but never really getting right in my spirit. Once Joanie and I had started talking about Jesus daily, praying together, and learning more about Him, I changed my focus in the closet. I turned to prayer. To seeking Jesus. To reading my Bible in the closet. To singing the Jesus music in the closet. And honestly, my life started changing.

The more I prayed and spent time with Jesus, the more I wanted to pray and spend time with Jesus. The Word says that if we seek Him we will find Him, and this was holding true for me. As I was praying in there, I was also studying my Bible. I had always heard of the Prayer Closet; it is a Biblical concept. But I didn’t really know what that meant. I knew there was a passage about going in your closet to pray, but beyond that, I didn’t know much.

But then I started learning about The Secret Place. The Secret Place is, in the simplest terms, the Closet. But it is really about relationship. Relationship with Jesus. Getting to know who God the Father really is. And coming into a friendship and trust relationship with Holy Spirit. Living in the Promises God has for us. Walking in His Word. There is so much that happens in the Secret Place, so many levels of love, fellowship, communion, intimacy with the Lord that happens there. Freedom. Revelation. Peace. Mercy. Grace. Love Everlasting. It all starts in the Secret Place.

As the days and weeks go by, and you and I get to know each other, I will share more and more about the Secret Place, what I am learning there, and who I am becoming. And I will share more and more about our Lord, who He is, and what that means to me, to you, and to our World.
