A Reminder of Who We Are in Jesus
Over the past several years, I have been seeking the Lord, searching the Word, and making careful notes. In the back pages of several different journals, I have running lists of some of the various Names of God. I love to read these Names, say them out loud, recite as many as I can recall at one sitting, pray and praise the Lord using His many and varied Names. It is truly beautiful to know Him and seek to know Him more and more.
Some of my favorites:
King of the Universe
The Voice of Many Waters
My Exceeding Great Reward
Mighty in Battle
King of Angel Armies
The Lamb Slain From the Foundation of the World
Worthy
Holy
Lover of My Soul
King of Glory
The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
Mightier Than Thunder
Mighty to Save
The Rock of Our Salvation
These are just a few, there are thousands of Names in the Bible. Take a look; open up to any page; if you are looking to know who He is, His Name will be revealed to you, page by page.
What is so important about knowing His names? Well. You cannot get to know someone, anyone, without knowing his name. Many times, when you first meet someone, you say "Hi. I'm Leslie. What is your name?" That is just the basics. From there, if you want to get to know that person more, you might say "Let's get together for coffee; I'd love to get to know you." Again, basic. From there, you might set aside time to meet again, and see if a friendship develops. You learn the person's name, you plan to meet, and then you keep the appointment. And then you talk; you talk about who you are and who they are. You talk about what is going on in your life or situation, and they talk to you. Once you start to know who that person is, you can decide if you want relationship with them, or not. Right?
Well. It is the same with Jesus. Once you know His Names, set aside time to meet with Him and get to know Him (through prayer, reading the Bible, etc.), you will realize that He is Good, and continue to develop a deeper relationship with Him.
I thought the title was "Knowing who you are in Jesus". Yes. I'm almost there. Once you know who He is, you can learn who you are, who you are meant to be. You can learn your worth and value in the great scheme of things. You can begin to walk in this identity, and therefore walk in freedom and victory.
So if Jesus is King of the Universe, what does that say about you? It means that you do not inhabit a random Universe. You are part of a plan, and part of a planned World.
If Jesus is the King of Angel Armies, who does that make you? That makes you on the receiving end of God's power and protection. It means you are surrounded by God's warring angels, sent to protect you and help you in tough situations. It means that you are so special that you have Supernatural defenders working to facilitate God's plan for your life.
If Jesus is the Rock of Our Salvation, who does that make you? It makes you "saved" if you accept relationship with Him. It means you are in relationship with a strong God, your relationship is built on a solid foundation, one that won't crumble or be shaken. You are safe. You are stable. When you are in relationship with Jesus.
These are just a few (very few) examples of how we know who we are when we know who He is.
I invite you to dig a little deeper. Go to the back of a journal, or use a piece of paper, or write on the envelope that your power bill came in; write down the Names of God as you run across them in the Bible. You will be amazed at what you can learn, even in a very short time, about Who God is. And that will reveal to you who you are, in a much larger and eternal way.
What prompted this whole thought process in me today is an experience I had yesterday when worshipping with some ladies in my circle. We had the opportunity to speak over each other who we are in God. The list of descriptions was Biblical, encouraging, and very uplifting.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
I am never without help.
I am highly regarded.
I am the apple of His eye.
I have a purpose.
I have a destiny.
Again, open your journal, or turn over the envelope from the power bill. If you look briefly, or day after day, you will find out who you are in Jesus. Knowing this will change your life.
It has surely changed my life. My prayer for you today is that you walk in knowledge of our Lord Jesus and walk in the knowledge of who He created you to be.
Pray this with me:
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You that Your Word is full of pictures of who You are! Thank You that the more we read from The Bible, the more Jesus is revealed to us, in ways that we can grasp and walk in. Thank You that as we study the pages, Your Names tell us more and more about You. And Your Names also tell us how much You love us. Thank You, Lord, for surrounding us with mighty angels, setting us high on a Rock, and sending Jesus to save us!
In His mighty Name, Yeshua,
Amen.
All my Love!
Leslie~
